Taapsee Pannu Stops Promoting Her First Theatre Project “Dhak Dhak” Due to Alleged Bullying and Manipulation by the Studio

The studio that is co-producing Taapsee Pannu’s big-screen debut, Dhak Dhak, blocked her from having any input on how it should be packaged for theaters.

Taapsee Pannu was very enthusiastic about Dhak Dhak, her first major motion picture co-produced by Vaicom 18, which she aggressively promoted on social media. However, the actor-producer has withdrawn herself from all kind of promotions just days before its premiere (October 13), and she even deleted her social media posts about the movie. According to a number of stories, the studio’s lack of advertising was to blame. We now know that the conflict was far more complicated than that.

Because she didn’t want to be treated unfairly by a studio just because they had made back their investment (by selling digital rights), Taapsee withdrew from the movie’s promotions. She wanted to have a say in how a movie was released and packaged as a producer. She is offended that a small group of paid professionals are throwing her movie in the trash since they have no emotional connection to it. She didn’t want to be easily exploited and then destroyed when necessary,” a source claims.

With only four days till its premiere, the trailer for the movie Dhak Dhak, which stars Ratna Pathak Shah, Dia Mirza, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Sanjana Sanghi, was released on October 9—leaving a very small window for buzz or hype. The source continues, saying that in addition to Viacom 18 doing nothing to promote the movie, the studio also forbade Taapsee Pannu from putting any promotional ideas or agreements she had obtained into action as a producer.

They consistently reassured her, emphasizing that there was no need for concern regarding the cinema distribution, as the film was primarily gaining viewership through OTT platforms due to its limited theatrical release. The last thing any producer, director, or team expected was to not receive support from the studio after working so hard to put together a cast of this caliber in today’s challenging casting climate.

The informant persisted, revealing, ‘She experienced disappointment from the production company responsible for the fundamental task of promoting the movie, as they unveiled the trailer a mere four days prior to the film’s scheduled premiere. And it’s really dad for the actors and crew who went through this extremely agonizing journey on the road.

The insider emphasizes that there is never a marketing share in any producer-studio arrangement, dispelling rumors that Taapsee Pannu may have sold marketing rights to the studio. A producer’s responsibility is to create a movie within a predetermined budget, hand it off to a studio, and let them handle marketing and distribution.

The agreements and contracts are that universal. No producer is permitted to acquire or dispose of marketing rights. Additionally, Taapsee made no money from this movie; all she wanted was to establish a name for herself as a producer of the right kind of movies, so the least the studio could have done was help her promote it.
