Shubman Gill of India won the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for September 2023 as a result of his run-scoring achievements during his country’s trophy-winning Asia Cup campaign and the ensuing ODI series against Australia.
Chamari Athapaththu of Sri Lanka won the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award as a result of her heroics in the subsequent ODI series against Australia.
Runs poured in for the 24-year-old in ODI cricket in September as he started the month with half-centuries against Nepal and Pakistan before passing three figures in stylish fashion against Bangladesh in Colombo en route to the final. Chasing down 51 to win the low-scoring match, Gill remained at the top of the ICC Men’s ODI batting rankings. He now lies within touching distance of Pakistan’s Babar Azam.
Shubman Gill continued to shine in the series against Australia that followed the Asia Cup, scoring 104 runs at more than a run-a-ball in Indore and 74 runs in Mohali.
He had 480 runs throughout the month, averaging 80, and a strike rate of 99.37.
Gill expressed his happiness at receiving the ICC Player of the Month title for the month of September in response to receiving the honour. Being able to represent India internationally and further the team’s goals is a huge honour. This honour will inspire me even more to keep pursuing excellence and to do my country proud.
“I was able to contribute in a useful way to the side that had the good fortune to win the Asia Cup in 2023 and then follow it up with a victory in an ODI series against Australia in September. I would like to take this chance to express my gratitude to all of my teammates, family, and coaches, without whom this accomplishment would not have been possible.
Shubman Gill defeated England’s Dawid Malan and fellow countryman Mohammed Siraj to win the Player of the Month award for 2023. Both players had been in exceptional form in the shorter international games leading up to the World Cup in 2023.
On the other side, Chamari Athapaththu has consistently performed for Sri Lanka on the international arena over the years, but her exploits in September reached new heights, winning her the Player of the Month award and leading her team to a historic series triumph over England in T20Is.

“I am ecstatic to be named ICC Women’s Player of the Month. This honour belongs to our entire team, not just to me, because without them, I would not have been able to play to my strengths,” Athapaththu said.
“This award will definitely boost me, my teammates, and our fans, who have supported us wholeheartedly throughout the entire process. It will also serve as motivation for our young cricketers, illuminating the way forward for them.”
