Ramesh Bidhuri: A Controversial Political Journey and Impactful Career

Ramesh Bidhuri, a former two-term member of the Lok Sabha from South Delhi, has a history of stirring up a stir with his controversial remarks.

Ramesh Bidhuri, a member of parliament for the Bharatiya Janata Party, has come under intense criticism for disparaging Danish Ali of the Bahujan Samaj Party because of his religion. The South Delhi MP received a severe warning from Speaker Om Birla for continuing to commit such infractions. The legislator has also received a show-cause notice from the BJP.

Ramesh Bidhuri, who is he?

Since he was a young child, Ramesh Bidhuri, a two-term member of parliament, has been involved with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). In addition to serving as the Central Parishad of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, he was a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the RSS’s student wing, and was elected to the Delhi University Executive Council in 1983.

In 1993, Bidhuri ran for the Tughlakabad constituency in the Delhi Legislative Assembly election, however he was unsuccessful. He also made an unsuccessful run for office in 1998. In the 2008 elections, he won from Tughlakabad. Bidhuri ran for the Lok Sabha in 2009 from South Delhi but was defeated by Ramesh Kumar of the Congress. He did, however, triumph in the general elections in 2014 and 2019.

  • Bidhuri recently came under fire for calling Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, “Baune,” which is a pejorative slur. “Baune Duryodhan ne theek kaha,” he had tweeted. Sumitra Mahajan, the former Lok Sabha Speaker, charged Bidhuri with improper behavior in the House.
  •  Bidhuri caused controversy during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections with his purported disparaging remarks about Arvind Kejriwal. Raghav Chadha, an AAP leader, filed a complaint, and the Delhi Election Panel responded by sending the MP a notice.
  •  Ramesh Bidhuri came under fire in 2017 for allegedly making a disparaging remark about Sonia Gandhi. He was cited as adding that while it doesn’t happen that way in Indian society, a grandchild can be born in Italy in just 5 to 6 months, according to a TOI story. In his divisive statement, he also disparaged Mayawati, the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party.
