As they broke records against Mongolia at the Asian Games, the men’s team from Nepal became the first in the sport’s history to score more than 300 runs in a T20 international match.
Nepal’s score of 314 runs for three wickets in their 20 overs on Wednesday in Hangzhou surpassed Afghanistan’s previous record of 278 runs for three wickets against Ireland in 2019.
While batting at number three, Kushal Malla recorded the quickest T20 international century in just 34 balls.
After him, Dipendra Singh Airee entered the field and hilariously amused the Mongolian bowlers by slamming eight sixes in just 10 balls.
Another global record was broken when he scored 50 runs in just nine balls, surpassing Yuvraj Singh’s 12-ball total against England in 2007.
Mongolia was only bowled out for 41 runs, compared to the women’s team’s bowling total of just 15 runs in the Asian Games last week.
Nepal had accumulated 42 runs for one wicket in 4.5 overs when Malla entered the batting order. By the end of their innings, Nepal had amassed 272 runs for the cost of two wickets thanks to the half-centuries of Airee and Paudel.
He scored a century in T20Is at the age of 19 years and 206 days, hitting 12 sixes and eight fours for a strike rate of 274 and becoming the second-youngest male hitter to do so.
