 Observances & Rituals for Aja Ekadashi in 2023

You should observe the strict procedures and intense dedication with which Aja Ekadashi is observed on this day.

You must take a bath before daybreak on Aja Ekadashi morning and put on clean clothing. The altar and worship space should then be cleaned before installing the Lord Vishnu idol there. You must bow down and offer prayers to the deity before arranging auspicious objects or puja materials like flowers, fruits, brown coconuts, betel nuts, cloves, incense sticks, ghee, the five nectars, a lamp with sesame oil, Tulsi leaves, lentils (dal), sandalwood, and more.

Worship is held both in the morning and evening on this day. Everybody benefits from reading the Ekadashi Vrat Katha (story) on this day. Some devotees also spend the entire night up, singing devotional songs, reciting mantras, and engaging in kirtans (devotional chants) and bhajans (devotional songs) dedicated to the Lord. Additionally, they break their fast by eating fruits on the Dwadashi day (the day following Ekadashi), giving food and donations to the poor and Brahmins.
