Actor Dinesh Phadnis, who gained popularity as the lead in the TV series CID, passed away in Mumbai on Monday night at the age of 57, according to news agency PTI.
In the well-liked television series, the actor played Fredericks. A few days ago, Dinesh Phadnis was admitted to Tunga Hospital, located in a Mumbai neighbourhood. He passed away yesterday night from health issues. Aditya Srivastava, Dinesh Phadnis’ co-star in CID, corroborated the information and informed news agency PTI, “Dinesh left us at roughly 12:08 am. We are aware that his liver problems affected the other organs. He was rather sick for two or three days. He was not able to live.”
Earlier this morning, the final rites for Dinesh Phadnis took place in Borivali East, as reported by the news agency PTI. Survived solely by his wife, the actor bid farewell. CINTAA (Cine And TV Artistes’ Association) paid homage to him via social media, expressing condolences on his passing. Their tribute conveyed, “CINTAA extends heartfelt condolences on the loss of Dinesh Phadnis (Member since Aug 2004).”
Tragically, Dinesh Phadnis succumbed to a liver ailment at midnight on Tuesday. Confirming this distressing news was his CID co-star, Dayanand Shetty. Renowned for his role as Fredericks on the immensely popular Sony TV show CID, actor Dinesh Phadnis has left us. Dayanand Shetty informed the Indian Express, stating, “Dinesh passed away at 12.08 am.”
The Tunga Hospital in Mumbai was treating the actor. His funeral services will be held at Borivali East’s Daulat Nagar Crematorium.
There were rumours Dinesh had a hearing attack earlier last week. Dispelling the claims, Dayanand Shetty stated that Dinesh was experiencing liver damage rather than a heart attack.
Dayanand Shetty, who portrayed Daya in CID, stated, “First off, he wasn’t suffering from a heart attack; rather, he was suffering from liver damage, which is why Tunga Hospital in Malad was called to treat him right away. For the preceding 48 hours, his condition has remained alarmingly severe. Furthermore, this Sunday morning brought to light the disheartening revelation of minimal to no signs of progress in his health. We’re praying he recovers quickly.”
Continuing further, “Throughout Dinesh’s treatment for a separate ailment, he underwent medication which unfortunately adversely affected his liver. This underscores the critical need for utmost vigilance while administering medications due to potential side effects. The interconnectedness of health conditions underscores the unpredictability; one’s treatment for a specific ailment could potentially trigger a different and severe illness. Hence, when resorting to allopathic remedies, exercising the highest level of caution becomes imperative.”

Together with Shivaji Satam and Aditya Shrivastava, Dinesh portrayed the lovable and naive CID officer Fredericks on CID. Dinesh had stated in an interview that he was having trouble finding parts and that every place he went looking for work, he ran with B P Singh, the producer of CID. I don’t know if that was coincidental or just pure chance.
My adventure started when he finally asked whether I wanted to join CID. I also picked up Aahat later on.
The previous show lacked any comedy at all. I was so selected to provide comic relief. He told Telly Chakkar, “And I must say that I have received great response from the masses.”
In addition to his role in the television series CID, Dinesh Phadnis had cameos in films like Sarfarosh and Mela, which both starred Aamir Khan in the lead roles. In 2001, he also starred in the movie Officer. In addition to his acting career, he has cameos in a number of TV series, including CIF, Adaalat, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, and CID: Special Bureau. Super 30, a movie starring Hrithik Roshan, also included Dinesh Phadnis. In addition to acting, he was a Marathi film writer.
