Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde dedicated the statue. In the Wankhede Stadium, Tendulkar also helped India defeat Sri Lanka in the 2011 World Cup final. It was also the same location that he concluded his career, having played in his 200th and last Test against the West Indies in 2013.

Sachin, taking to X, reminisced about his early experiences at Wankhede Stadium, highlighting his experiences as a ball boy, fan, and World Cup winner. “This image holds a deeply cherished spot within my soul,” the author declared. Life has really come full circle—from when I was ten years old and snuck into the North Stand with only 24 tickets for 25 excited supporters to when my statue was revealed at the legendary Wankhede. I vividly recall the jubilant chants we used to do, the friendship among those people, and the unwavering support of the @NorthStandGang throughout the years.

It is impossible for words to express the journey I took when I arrived at Wankhede as a fan, played my final international match here, lifted the 2011 World Cup, and then served as the ball boy in the 1987 World Cup.”

This statue isn’t exclusive to me. This is an homage to all of the non-strikers who supported me along the way—my cricket heroes, teammates, and coworkers—because this journey would not have been possible without them. “Your benevolence has been unwavering, Wankhede and the world of cricket,” he persisted.

With over 18,000 runs in ODI cricket and over 15,000 in Test cricket, Sachin is the all-time leading run scorer in both formats and is regarded by many as the greatest batter of all time. In international cricket, he also holds the record for most man-of-the-match accolades.

Tendulkar’s post has received over 24,000 likes and over 533,000 views since it was shared. Additionally, it sparked a number of responses in the comments section. “Life’s journey is this. I really hope you had a great time,” a user commented. “What a positive message this is for the God of Cricket. I wonder if we will ever have someone like him again because of the way he looks back on his journey with humility and acknowledges everything that made him possible to achieve greatness. SRT, we miss you. uttered by another.
